Goodies review nueve- Casuarina Curry Restaurant
On 02-04-06, last Domingo, Me and one of my makan kakis, Star, went for Makan trip. This time Star brought me to a place called Casuarina Curry Restaurant, previously known as the Prata Shop. It's at 126 Casuarina Rd, somewhere near Upper Thomson Road, take bus 163 from Toa Payoh interchange is the most hassle free method to reach the place, remember to drop after Yio Chu Kang.
I believed the restaurant is more like a family-styled place. Restaurant? More like a stuffy eatery. Haha.. The place where we sat, table 26, is one hot place. Despite having a fan there, it's still suay, it wasn't switched on when we're there, and we weren't aware of it either. Two idiots.
I read through the webby night before, somehow got the idea of what to order. And so, we ordered a kosong prata (2.5 hmmms), a egg n onion(4 hmmms), a cheese (2 hmmms), a chicken masala (3 hmmms becos' of the chix tenderness), a teh-chino (2 hmmms cos' too milk) and a kopi-chino ice (3 hmmms, coffee taste). We weren't full so a mutton murtabak (3 hmmms, filling but is minced mutton, little mutton too, different from the restaurant in Little India) was added to the list (not in picture). Haha...
Alright, I admitted that I was deceived by the description on the webby telling me that the teh-chino is a refreshing beverage tastes of local Indian tea but with a cappuccino twist. Aha! I ordered and it turned out to be Lipton tea plus milk. If I knew, I would have ordered Teh Tarik.
The pratas are crispy and not that oily compared to some places, real good. However, I expected the same stuff in many other places. Perhaps the prata's flour is not too thick, that's why when it gets a little colder, it's still easy to tear apart. The best I ever tried is the egg n onion prata. Nice and filling, however, it's not as delicious when dipped in the curry gravy.
The chicken masala curry is rather salty, but the chicken is quite tender. Don't really recommend this to you all.
The cheese prata taste too salty and the cheese slice is the main culprit. Yucks, despite not tasting any cheesy smell. Thought of complaining it like Zhang Zhiyi in the Visa advert, but considering the aftermath, I decided not too. :)
The prices here are rather reasonable. Think we spend less than SGD20, forgot to ask Star if they charge 16% consumer tax. It was filling and worth trying if only you are fine with the ulu place. :)
